The stone tower in Stołpie

A stone tower, situated on a small stronghold is considered to be one of the most interesting monuments of Lublin region. The researchers found that the tower was established at the end of the twelfth century. Roman Mścisławowicz or his son Daniel Romanowicz -  rulers of the Principality of Galicia-Volhyn were considered the most likely founders of the tower.
A small wooden castle and a monastery were built at the tower. The most likely it was for mother of Prince Daniel.
The construction of the tower, unprecedented in our land, with the remains of design ornaments of octagonal chapel from the fifth floor, indicates patterns taken from Byzantium.
